They then intend to share their wealth

A TUMUT couple have broken their silence on landing a big share in last week's $30 million Lotto megadraw.

Tumut pensioners Lindsay and Kay Connolly told the Tumut and Adelong Times they had to borrow money from their daughter to purchase a ticket in the mid-year jackpot, and the gamble paid dividends.

The couple bagged $1.25 million as one of 24 division one winners across Australia.

The Connollys have been scraping the barrel since Lindsay was forced to quit his job to care for his wife a few years ago, and resorted to living on a pension.

The couple was last week still letting the transition from Aussie battlers to millionaires sink in, and said they had no big plans for their newfound wealth.

“It is just the simple things in life we want,” Mr Connolly said.

“I am going to get a new pair of Rossi boots and Kay wants a new pair of joggers.

“It is a feeling that is hard to describe but it is a really good feeling.

“We are debt free and we don’t have to worry anymore.”

The Connollys generally buy one or two lottery tickets a year, and decided to take their chances on the $30 million megadraw in lieu of going out for dinner.

Mr Connolly says while other people might splurge on a fancy car or new house, he is content just knowing he and his wife now have money in the bank to pay their bills.

“We used to have to say we can’t do this or get that, now that worry is gone,” he said.

After treating themselves to new shoes, the couple plans to use some of the money to restore Mr Connolly’s mother’s gravesite.

They then intend to share their wealth among their four children and nine grandchildren.

Mr and Mrs Connolly spoke to the Tumut and Adelong Times last week but requested not to have photos of themselves published.
