A new boutique featuring trendy, eco-friendly clothing and recycled, repurposed merchandise has opened at 14 Washington St. Environmentally aware shoppers will be pleased to find a variety of items ranging from eco-friendly, fashionable apparel to recycled, custom made dog accessories.

Store manager Jessica Maynard, of Ellicottville, said the boutique went from an idea to a reality very suddenly. Around the first of the year, with the help of close friends and family, she started toying around with ideas for the boutique. By February, they had the store space and started remodeling into April. On April 12, the store had a soft opening and the

official grand opening was held on June 15.

Nouriche was more than just an impulse. Maynard’s experience from her home-based business, the restaurant business and her skills at marketing and selling products all contributed to getting the business up and running.

“Rachel Battista helped with the initial aesthetic design of the store, including the shelving,”

She repurposed the metal brackets from the former sign to support the new wood sign. It kind of goes with the whole Nouriche ideal.”

A light-colored tongue-and-groove wood ceiling and a new floor give the space a fresh look. The barn board walls, previously a light-colored, unfinished wood, have been stained a

rich, dark color and the shelving is all custom made with birch log supports.

Maynard said the boutique carries mostly women’s apparel, with the majority being made from sustainable, eco-friendly fabrics by eco-friendly,Welcome to Michael Kors Classic Tote Outlet online now. globally minded companies that make sure their products are fairtrade and ethical. Several companies donate part of their proceeds back to charities.

“It’s what we focus on … trendy eco-friendly clothing,” she said. The latest trends and best prices on Michael Kors Bags 2013.

According to Maynard, whenever possible, the store gets clothing made from organic cotton, bamboo, hemp and other natural fibers. They’re comfortable fabrics that will last a long time.

“People like the idea of items being recycled and sustainable and so do we,” she said. “As far as choosing products, we started by thinking about merchandise that people couldn’t get in Ellicottville or items that visitors to the area would be hard-pressed to find.”

The boutique also has lingerie, pajamas, robes, Yoga wear, shape wear, shoes, jewelry, handbags and accessories. Maynard said the swimsuits they carry have been extremely popular.

The store carries basic men’s essentials including organic, cotton T-shirts and polos and swim trunks. She said men can come in for gifts and gift cards, which is a great idea for the guys who don’t know exactly what to buy for that special someone.

“I try to make sure the store carries apparel in every size and price range. I want everybody to be able to shop here,” she said.

Some very unique items sold at the boutique are metal purses made by the Wendell August Forge, of Grove City, Pennsylvania; and Laga handbags, handmade in Aceh, Indonesia, by women who survived the tsunami in December 2004.

“The handbags are hand-embroidered with indigenous designs and are made without electricity on treadle-style sewing machines,” Maynard said. “Each one is like a historical piece of art, but you get to carry it around as your purse. The handbags are very hard to get in because it takes so long to make them.”

The store also carries gift made with ingeniously, recycled items including wine bottles called “Rewined” candles.Shop the latest bottega handbag from top designers at anmison. They contain soy wax candles and the essence of a variety of wines and are handmade in South Carolina.

Select pet merchandise is available at Nouriche including a line of toys, travel water bowls and scooper bags made from recycled tires. Another popular item is a line of dog collars and leashes, recycled from bicycle tire inner tubes, called “Cycle Dog.” Some of the collars are sparkling with rhinestones, can be custom made and are made in the U.S.A. Maynard said Nouriche is a dog-friendly store and she encourages people to bring their dog in to try one on.

Maynard said she trains her store employees to make sure the customers feel like they are visiting a friend’s house because she wants them to feel at home. If they need help finding an item or picking something out, the staff will help them shop as much as they want — without hovering or being pushy.

“I’m just glad to do something to bring another good business to Ellicottville,” she said. “This space had been empty for nearly a year, so it was nice to get a business back in here. It’s been fun.”
